First thing to know: food pantries are for everyone having
a hard month. Most don't ask for income proof. You don't need to qualify
for SNAP — most food-insecure people in KC don't.
Call the pantry before you go. Hours change and some
days are drive-through only. Bring a bag or box if you can.
No internet? Call Harvesters at
816-929-3000 (weekdays) or
211 anytime.
2. A hot meal today
Community kitchens
In the Harvesters locator, filter by "Kitchen" for
free hot meals served today — no questions asked. Downtown, the KC Public
Library's 3North desk (816-701-3767) keeps a
printed "Street Sheet" of today's meal sites.

3. For kids
Summer meals for kids (it's June — these are running now)
Free summer meal sites for anyone 18 and under, no sign-up. Text
"FOOD" to 304-304 (or "COMIDA" para
español) or call 211 to find the nearest site.
Schools and libraries often host them.

4. SNAP (food stamps) — worth checking, not waiting for
Get food from a pantry first — SNAP takes days to
weeks; pantries are today.
Want help with the application? Harvesters has SNAP
helpers who do it with you: 816-929-3000.
If SNAP says no, you still get pantry food. About 6 in 10
food-insecure people in the KC region earn "too much" for SNAP but not
enough to be okay. Pantries exist exactly for this. Go.
