Food (SNAP)

  1. Text FOOD to 74544 — mRelief, a nonprofit, checks SNAP eligibility in about 3 minutes by text. No account. (Their online screener at mrelief.com works too.)
  2. Most food-insecure people in KC don't qualify for SNAP — and pantries don't care. Either way, the food page works tonight.

Everything federal at once

  1. usa.gov/benefit-finder — one questionnaire, checks dozens of federal programs, in English and Spanish.

Free tax filing (tax season)

  1. VITA files for you, free, and often finds refunds people miss. Call 211 and ask for "free tax prep" (runs roughly mid-January to mid-April).
  2. GetYourRefund.org does the same online: getyourrefund.org.
