🏥 A medical bill I can't pay

The number on that bill is not final. Nonprofit hospitals must have help-with-bills programs ("charity care") by law — most people who qualify never apply.

Do it in this order

1. Don't pay on the spot.  2. Ask for an itemized bill — check for errors.  3. Ask: "What's your self-pay rate?"  4. Ask for the financial assistance application.  5. Only then, a no-interest payment plan.  6. Never put it on a credit card.
